Alpesh has been busy back in Birmingham preparing for his UK Opera Debut with the Birmingham Opera Company and CBSO in March, where he will be conducting Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. The production will be directed by Graham Vick, and feature an exciting line-up of soloists for five performances at Birmingham's Tower Ballroom.
Alpesh has been working closely with Assistant Conductor Gary Matthewman on the opera, which will mark the Birmingham Opera Company's 50th production. The performances will offer a slightly different concert experience, with audiences moving with the action instead of being seated.
Alpesh now hands over rehearsal duties to Matthewman to join the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence for a performance on Saturday. Alpesh will be conducting Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Four dances from Love’s Labour Lost op. 167, Ades' Dances from Powder Her Face and Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorento. Performances of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk run from 9 to 17 March. Find tickets and more information on the CBSO website.
