Alpesh becomes Principal Conductor of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini
Alpesh officially begins his post as Principal Conductor of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini today. His relationship with the orchestra began in March 2015 when he stepped in at the last minute for two performances. He was immediately re-invited to conduct concerts in January and March 2016, as well as a seven-concert summer tour later that year. Following his appointment as Principal Conductor Designate in September 2016, Alpesh conducted multiple concerts throughout 2016/17 including performances of Sibelius’ Symphony No.1 in February and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 in May, plus a Mozart/Stravinsky programme in April.
Highlights from Alpesh’s first season as Principal Conductor of the orchestra will include the opening concert on 3 November 2017, which features Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem and Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, performances of the cycle of Brahms’ Symphonies in January 2018, and a Rachmaninov/Shostakovich programme in February. Renowned British pianist Stephen Hough joins the orchestra for Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1 on 11 and 12 May, followed by performances of Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Orchestra and Mahler’s Symphony No.1 later in the month.
